The Prosine i got was around $800. But i use it for a fairly complex "off grid" system including 2 55w solar pannels, and a small wind generator. (load ballancers, charge controlers bla bla bla)

It pulls double duty between my off grid home system, and my popup camper.

How many of use with inverters have shoved a meter into the 110/120v output of them? I was shocked (no pun intended) to find my cheepy ones of the past only put out 80-90v ac on 14v dc input.

 

I never checked mine, but I have had mine connected to a 36" TV, DVD/VCR player, home sound system and the kids XBOX for about 8 hours during a storm using the 2 deep cycles from my boat. Nothing like playing DVD's and video games by candle light!

tripplite is a good brand. calculate total wattage to be operated for X amount of time, then get a bigger one.
i havent seen any mention of dual batteries to prevent a start the next morning because "the .... was never turned off"

 

And I'm living proof of this "DOH!".

Mine is wired straight to the battery and it draws enough sitting idle that it'll bring down a battery to the point of not being able to crank the engine in a couple of days.

I would suggest that folks wire theirs into the ignition (through a HEAVY duty relay - the large inverters draw a LOT of current) but then you have to have the whole truck energized just to run the box. Another idea may be to run a resetable timer of some-sort on the DC side. Set it for 2 hours, and if you don't manually reset the coutdown within that timeframe, it'll kill the power to the inverter.
