If you are going to hard wire it like I did mine, it's a good idea to have a seperate fuse up by the battery within 18" of it, just like you'd do for a stereo amp installation.

The power for my converter is fused at three places.
1. The unit itself has a replacable fuse.
2. The brown wire for power for it going into the stereo amps distribution block.
3. And the Phoenix Gold VB100 circuit breaker.

One can never have enough protection when working with high current and amperage.

Waytek has those too, and I'd wager that they are cheaper. Nice thing is that they are waterproof.

Just checked. My Waytek catalog says $3.65 for the size that would work with 4 ga (.5-.79")

Here's one more question for ya'll. I can't mount my inverter under either the front driver's or passenger's seat because I've got my amps under each seat. I plan on mounting it in the back on one of the side panels, similar to what Corey did. I'd like to run about a 15' extension cord under the back seat and up to the front passenger floor board (right under the dash) so that we can plug in my girlfriends laptop on long trips. Question is, will the voltage drop on the extension cord be enough so that the laptop won't run? I just don't know how strong of an AC voltage these things put out. Plus, it's considered a "modified sin wave." Thoughts? Later.

BTW, there's another thread going about the delivery of these things. I have no idea when to expect it. It's already been seven business days since the order was placed and I've heard nothing on shipment. I called them today and they said it would be another week before they had them in stock (apprently the sell stuff they don't even have and don't consider it backordered) and then about 5 business days for delivery. I do not recommend this site (one in the link at the beginning). Find it somewhere else and pay a little more. At least you'll have it to enjoy. Later.

I just got the UPS shipping info email. I don't know what the woman I talked to today was thinking, but at least it's on it's way. Scheduled delivery is July 2.

With the 400W being enough to run a laptop, I don't think you'll have any problems with using the 800W and the setup you described. The power cord that came with my laptop stretches out about 10 feet on it's own, so you can probably just plug the laptop straight up and be fine too. Wanna have a power inverter mod party when they get in?

This thread made me go out and purchase a 400W Motomaster Eliminator from Canadian Tire today. I hope to hard wire it later on this week and mount it in my cargo aread.

I liked this feature:

"Advanced easy-to-use digital display - displays amount of watts the attached household or electronic device is drawing, amount of voltage remaining in the battery and fault codes".

It's good to know what's going on.

I installed my 1200 watt inverter today. I used zip ties and its hidden up behind my glove box.

I had a real hard time finding cable for it. Car toys wanted $6.55 a foot. Nah, went down to another car stero shop where i got my sub and amp and they hooked me up.

Got mine today 800W/1600W and it even came with a nice little carrying case to boot w/ spare fuses and some worthless cables!
