Power FLuctuation

I have a wierd question about the turn signals in my truck, and was wondering if this happens to anyone else, and how to fix it.

When i use my hazards, and the turn signals, the voltage indicator drops to about halfway. It pulses, so when the lights go on, the voltage drops, and vice-versa. Is that normal? or is something getting ready to break? I should note that it's been doing this for at least a year

normal

The voltage drop happened on my Supra and 4Runner, but it seemed to only move about 1/4", not halfway. I noticed it almost went away when I installed a 1 farad capacitor for my sub amplifier.

The brushes in my Supra alternator wore out at 210,000 miles, so unless you're close to that, I wouldn't worry about that.

Something else to check, is to make sure your alternator belt is in good shape, and not too loose.

Hmmm my 92 does the same. I just bought it a few months ago, so I have no idea if it has always done this. My voltage indicator doesn't drop nearly to half, however it does pulse enough to catch my eye and make me worry. I assume it's just the relay kicking on and off, but you have to ask yourself why it's drawing that much power and/or why the alternator isn't generating enough current to stabilize the electrical system.

BTW- What's funny is that when I use my turn indicators, it drops more than when I am playing my system (two external amps) loud with the bass hitting.

Can anyone else attest to this or shed some light onto this?

Test:

Put a volt meter on the battery. Turn on the hazards and the T/S's. Does the volt meter reflect the same as the vehicles voltmeter?

If not....its just a fluke.
