Poor accelleration? Low top speed?

Thought I'd pass on this bit. A guy I know has been complaining of low power and low top speed. Runs fine, doesn't need a tune up, he's been messing with it for months. I've seen this complaint many times on this forum as well, and the throttle cable is a common culprit. I already had him check his throttle cable adjustment, that wasn't it. He stopped by the other day and I had a look.
:pat: He had aftermarket pedal covers and thick aftermarket floor mats... The brackets on the back side of the pedal combined with the mats prevented getting any where near full throttle. That was it!

Remember to check the obvious....

Well at least it was a great mod to do to improve the gas mileage

I think people should try it, cheap and really works to improve the gas mileage.

A friend of mine had the same problem, a buddy of mine told her to check and make sure the floor mats werent bunched up under the pedals, hes seen this alot since hes a mechanic.....she took it to a mechanic and they tore it all apart and could not find the problem, they had the car to three weeks....I took her to pick up the car when they said they couldnt figure it out. On the way there I asked her if she check the floor mats, and she said she didnt understand what he meant OH:....so when we pulled up the head mechanic was talking to her and I looked and sure enough the floor mats her bunched up under the pedals....I drove it around the parking lot and the mechanics face was beat red with embarrassment....THEN he had the nerve to try to bill her for the tune up they did and all this other stuff, i handed her the keys and told her to leave....i told him "she brought this car to you to fix the problem, not tune it up, not add a bunch of parts she didnt need and change fluids that didnt need to be changed" he just stood there dumbfonded as I walked away....other then that last little part it was quite comical

That's a lot better than having an egg underneath the gas pedal

Dummy me, I read too fast and missed the last few sentences then went on to try to solve the problem. Whoops! Well glad to hear about you finding that out. I think Stegal984R had done something like that on purpose and gotten better gas mileage even with his lift.
