This weekend I took my Tacoma to hell and back. I was the only one who did not get stuck pulled out a ford and a jeep and a another Tacoma. Well I finally called it quits when my Battery Light came on. So I took my truck to the car wash started hosing off everything and noticed my flex 210 was still running (temp was to cold for the thermostat to kick them on) So I turned the thermostat and the fan control box, and the fans still stayed on. Blah blah blah.

He are my questions:
1. Why is my Battery Light still on? I have a brand new battery so that is out. Could it be the Alternator?
2. Did the control box for the flex fan get to wet and shorted out, or are the fans on because the same reason my battery light is on.
3. Oh almost forgot that carpet pad thingy that attaches under the hood, well when I raised my hood at the car wash that thingy was setting on my engine so I donated it to the car wash, does that need to be replaced?

2. Sounds like it.
3. That pad is for noise control, not heat (so I've heard)

 

Check the FLX + fuse. Apparently their recommendation is not high enough, and the fuse can weld itself together during a short, causing the fans to stay on.

I am going to use a waterproof non-conductive silicone sealant inside the FLX control box (where the wires plug in), I suggest you do the same.

As for the battery light, I would look at the ALT.

 

The fuse is a fuse, not a switch or relay. If the fuse is bypassed, this still leads to a thermostat problem. The fuse holders they include with the kits are crap. I'm not sure, but I think those rinky dink mini fuse holders may not be able to handle the heat of the engine compartment without being compromised. I've heard of the fuse holder problem a few times now...

I understand. My point was that a properly functioning fuse would blow, cutting off the power to the fans. In this case, the fans just stay on because the fuse [holder] has malfunctioned.

I think I am going to upgrade my fuse holder, but for the record I have never had a problem, even in a place where the average temp for July was 108.

 

I've heard of the electric fan thermostats having a few problems here on the board.

When I do the fan mod, I think it'll have the fan current go through two 30A relays in parallel instead of the current going through the controller/thermostat. This will help keep the heat from the fan current draw away from the controller and may add to its longevity. Also, I have a few relays and double relay harnesses laying around in a junk box somewhere.

 

I tore into my alt. cleaned all the dirt and mud out with WD-40 and a air hose. Then I blew the control box with compressed air.
Now every thing is fixed. Except for the carpet pad thingy. Think of use brownbead or that peel and stick stuff.

You are lucky it came back.. I took mine out at the EC4RJ washed it in the bathroom for a while and let it dry over night hanging above the propane stove in my camper to dry.. Next morning, it was still shot.. Luck me was able to miss just the best day of wheeling and did find a place that was able to get me a new one..

The pad is for noise / heat / and a fire retardant to some extent.. you can live without it just fine..

As for the fan.. I bet $$ your relay is shot.
