please help. 96 4runner SR5

So I've recently changed my starter, and installed a new sound system.

So what's happening is when I'm driving at night with my headlights on my temperature gauge goes all the way to the overheating range. And if I disconnect my obdii code reader at anytime my truck stalls.

I'm pretty positive my voltage regulator is shot. But why would I stall out when I disconnect the code reader?

Red face

Just what way did you wire in this new sound system??

Was it plugged into the Stock stereo harness??

Why do you think your voltage regulator has failed and in what direction under charging or over charging??

Your temperature Gauge works fine when the lights are off??

Hard wired in per Toyota standards. Only difference was I had to cross the illumination wire into the 12v constant.

And the reason I think its the regulator is because the power on the vehicle goes iffy with the more electronics running

Problem solved. Took a voltmeterto it and found out the voltage regulator was shot. Now maybe I can hook the amp and sub back up
