I will probably need to trim my pinch weld when I go with 33" tires twards the end of this summer and thought about a different way to trim it.

Instead of hammering the pinch weld flat, couldnt you grind of cut an inch or two off at a time, put a bead of weld in place of the pinch weld and do this for the whole length of the pinch weld?

Would this work or not? Anyone else have other ideas? I guess im just scared of denting the body and screwing something up LOL.

that idea is fine and accepted in the wheeling world....

 

I just thought that this idea would make the wheel well look cleaner and more factory arfter the weld is ground flush and painted.

When I did my rig, I used a cut-off wheel on my 4 1/2 grinder. Then cut a groove along a scribed line and removed almost an 1". Afterwards I took my body hammer and pounded the sheetmetal to fit, welding the seam shut. So to answer your question, Yes it can be done.....

I got one on my website for just pounding it flat, but eventually I am going to grind it off and put a bead on it to weld the two pieces together like Bruce did. Nothing to it.

 

i have yet to do the left side of my truck but i took the fender off and just flattened the whole pinch weld... as for the fender in that same spot, i trimmed it in section and then floded the old parts back... that way still having a defined rolled edge instead of a sharp fender...

Does that help? Seriously, there's no wrong way to do this, mostly just how it looks when its done. I beat mine flat, and haven't ever walked by, in my best "Queer Eye" imitation, and stood aghast at the ugly pinchweld pounded flat.
