Pickup vs. T100 ...

Hey guys,

I need to sell the old rustbucket '93 pickup because it is too hard to work on (it needs a can of penetrant for every operation) and it is only getting like 15mpg in city, and I'm a pretty light foot.

My dad has a really well-maintained T100, '96 4x4 SR5 that is getting like 20 mpg in city (which makes me really jealous) and he said if I sold mine, he'd trade me because he wants to buy a 4runner! Sweet!

Any pro's and con's between a pickup and a T100, other than the fact that the T100 is wider and heavier? By the way, my current pickup is a V6 auto 4x4 SR5 and both trucks have about 180k miles.

T-100 actually gets more travel out of the ifs because the arms are longer....the angles don't get as bad as quickly as they do on pickup IFS.

What motor does the T-100 have? If it is a 3.4 liter V6, it is a way reliable motor and much better than the V6's in the 93 and more power than the 22RE.

I say go for the swap.

Yeah the 3.0 is a gas hog. The 3.4 gets better mileage and has more power.

I'd definitely do the trade.

Congrats on the new truck.

Yep - bought a T100 new in '97 and it's a world of difference - the only reason not to would be to have a narrow vehicle for 4wheeling, but we put a pop-up in the bed and camp where nobody else goes. It's a good vehicle - now has about 140 k miles on it and we have no plans to sell it. The only regret I have is not putting a supercharger on it for a good price when I had the chance.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I find that strange that a bigger truck with 0.4 more liters would have better fuel economy. But hey, it's a win-win situation: bigger truck = better mileage is rarely an equation one sees.

What would you estimate is the value of both of these trucks? Both look quite nice and are clean inside and out, with no mechanical problems (except the 93 pickup is rusty hee hee)

It's not too strange to me because the 3.4 is a DOHC design vs. the SOHC design for the 3.0. The 3.4 is more advanced and will be able to deliver more power more efficiently than the 3.0.
