it might be an A/F sensor. get your VIN and go to a toyota dealer and confirm
the correct part number for free, before buying

And if you confirm that's the problem, just get it from URD.

I bought my '99 SR5 new here in NJ and it's a Cali. with an A/F. Late in the model year they were selling Cali.s all over the country. Look at the sticker under the hood (if it says "California emissions") or just look under the truck and count cats. Two is California. The second cat is semi-vertical behind the engine (well, actually that's the first cat).

Then get the DENSO part number from the URD website URD O2 Sensors and buy the part from URD or anybody else. Amazon is a little cheaper than URD but their application data is suspect. So you need the DENSO part number (which the dealer won't give you).

Sparkplugs.com is running a sale on many of the Denso O2s for the various styles of the CA and non-CA 3rd gens. They also have application data (4wd vs. 2wd, manual, vs. auto, etc..). They will also specify pre 9/98 or post 9/98 for your '99.

Look under your truck at the exhaust ... if you have 1 cat then you do not have a Calif. emissions vehicle. Both sensors are O2 sensors and you probably want to replace the front one. If you have 2 cats then your truck IS a Calif emissions vehicle. The front sensor would then be your A/F and the rear is the O2.
