I cut slits were the battery sits on the fender and used a tie down strap to hold it down side to side and used the factory hold down.

pm me if you get something made up, I am moving this week and I don't get on here much any more.

Thanks!

Go to your nearest Autozone and ask for a spacer. I did and got one. Freebie!!

Wabfab....you rock, let me know what you come up with. I hate that battery moving around, the strap I have around it just looks hokey...

oh and bungee cord.....that wouldn't stop a heavy ass battery from going where ever it wants.

but duct tape......ummmmm

I have had several red top Optimas & they worked well but fit poorly. The early ones did not come with spacers. I had a thick rubber mat I cut & fit into the tray to take up the extra space. My friend has had nothing but problems with his optimas. Sears now sells a a Die Hard with similar technology.

Pricey, but may be a better fit.

I just found this thread, but yeah, I would totally fork over for a drop-in tiedown bracket for a 34R in a Tacoma. Spacers crack/break, wood compresses, and I'm too lazy to go have a piece of 1" aluminum cut and milled just to act as a bottom spacer for a stupid battery.

My red top lasted only 2.5 years...holding voltage but barely any cranking amps.

And if that doesn't work, just email Optima with your battery's model number and they will mail you one at no charge. I've done this a couple times, most recently about 4 months ago.

They fit perfectly in the stock location. I just put one in about 6 months ago. Nice battery with a 4 year warranty.

Does a 4Runner use a group 34 battery? The 34 won't "perfectly fit" in a stock 2004 Tacoma (or 2002 Tacoma, for that matter). You need a height spacer, and technically it's a hair narrower than the group 24F stock battery.
