optima batteries for cheap...
Ok fellas, here's the deal. I ran across a guy who buys and restores batteries. Well, I just so happened to notice a couple Red Top Optimas laying on the bench in his shop. So I asked him if he ever gets any Yellow Tops in and he said yeah. Well, not more than 5 minutes later a van pulls in with 2 yellow tops that are 1 year old and still look brand new... he told me $45 each. He said he'll warrant them for 6 months. Good deal, eh?!

I got a brand new Red Top(34) and a brand new Yellow Top(D34/78 for the price of a D34 as they were out of stock) for $265 with FREE shipping!.

So, how does he go about restoring an Optima battery, or say any vehicle battery?
When the plates short out that cell is done. Does he open up the cases and repair the plates and then reseals the cases somehow?
How did he restore the batteries that your bought, or did you just take them as is and hope the last for the 6 months? Why did the previous owner dispose of them?
This all sounds really interesting...

the yellow tops are from a company up by Cleveland that has to use them for emergency back-up power on small machines. By code, they have to replace them every year. So he buys them from him. Maintenance records showed no use of these batteries, other than having cables hooked up to them. I didn't ask him how he refurbishes them, I was happy enough at the price!! He said if they go bad within 6 months, bring them back and he'll give me different ones. And if the replacements go bad, he'll give me brand new ones. Can't beat that. I know him from my childhood, he's trustworthy, so I'm in good now.

the guy's on Rt. 42 close to Tractor Supply in Ashland, Ohio. Intersection of 42 and CR 1475. Company name is Ohio Battery Supply. He has any kind of battery you can think of. Red top, Blue top, Yellow top. Even has Deka Intimidators. Those are sweet batteries.

the one question I have about my yellow top... can I use it like a normal battery? I mean, my stock yota alternator is 60 amp. Can I just throw the yellow top in and treat it like a stock battery? And always let the alternator charge it? Does it have to run dead to accept a full charge?

actually, if they were really your "friends" you'd sell the batteries to them for what it cost you. make a profit off people you don't know, not people who would drop anything to help you out if you needed it.
