opinions of super swampers

hi, my name is sdf1 and i'm a toyota-holic. i'm a newbie to the forum. i've just recently bought my 2nd runner about 3mo. ago. it's a 2nd gen, a 95 had a 86 til i done got it all smashed up! my 95 is in need of some new tires. i like the way the super swampers look specifically the trxus M/T Radials but don't know how the ride. right now i have 31x10.5 15" dunlop A/T.
need some professional oppinons and recommendations.

the trxus m/t isn't a swamper, it's a mud tire, hence the name. i personally would not put swampers on my truck unless it was being used frequently offroad (like multiple times weekly). They wear very fast on the road and are terrible in rain and compact snow. With the high cost of them, I'd much rather have the M/T.

if you can afford 2 sets of tires i would get a pair of swampers, and get something else for on road, but if its a daily driver, i wouldn't.

I had the SSR on my 4Runner and I`ll never use them again, it`s a 2ply sidewall and that was the first thing that cut when I went crawling. I also had the bias (standard) swampers on my first pup and talk about loud, annoying noisy tires. Really rough riding to! IMO radial mud tires are the way to go. Less noise, smoother highway running, and last a whole lot longer. IE: BFG M/T or Goodyear MT/R

I had the SSR's and had all kinds of problems... balancing, blowouts, etc I wouldnt recommend them to anyone.

The TRXUS MT is getting better reviews though (for an Interco Tire), although it is listed as a heavy tire so that makes me wonder if there is going to be issues of balancing.

For hard offroading bias is the way to go for sure. I have 34 inch LTB's on my truck and they handle whatever is thrown at them. But if you are driving alot on the highway and not thumping hard on your truck off road, radials are more than adequate. Just make sure you do a lot of question asking about all types of M/T's. There's alot of knockoffs out there.

I currently have a set of Hankook RT01 m/ts on my truck and I love them. They are aggressive offroad, strong, super quiet on road (for a m/t), and wear well. Best of all they are pretty cheap too. Best bang for the buck I have found so far for a daily driver/weekend warrior type rig.

If you are looking a getting into more hardcore offroad stuff then TSLs or similar are a great tire. If you are buying tires based mostly on looks then you will probably hate bias plys on the highway enven though they are better and generally stronger offroad.

I've run SX's and regular TSL's on my trail rigs... NEVER on a daily driver, unless you're a glutton for punishment. Bias ply tires don't stay round unless they're in motion...

BUT... IROK's and SX's will kick your run of the mill MT all over the trail... YES, this goes for MT/R's and BFG M/T's too!!! Yeah, yeah, yeah... but so-and-so runs MT/R's on such-and such.. Sorry... but for MY type of wheeling, MT/R's don't self clean well.... SX's and/or IROK's will more than likely be my tire of choice...

That also said, I currently have 35" MT/R's on my 80, BUT, I'm switching to some IROK's as soon as they wear down enough.... woo hoo...

I run el cheapo mud king xt's they work fine for me on and off trail. This is my 2nd time buying them and I like them.
I wish I had waited though they came out with a new sidewall design on them this year.
The nice part mud kings are made by cavilier a spin off company of BFG so you get a older BFG tread design it a pretty good tire for the money.
They gouge like all other radials offroad but they are alot less expensive I got my 33x12.50's for about $100 a peice.

My friend runs swamper boggers they are great offroad hands down but he runs them on MRT Beadlocks he takes it strictly offroad he will not drive it in the winter with those tires on it unless it's really deep snow. most Bias ply swampers are not for your average daily driver so a radial is more desireable. I think I am just repeating what other have said here. It is clearly up to you what style of driving you consistantly do so make a choice based on it.

i think those smaller irok sizes are mainly geared for the mall crawler crowd, who would run a 33" tire on 20" wheels?

Someone that wanted a low side wall height and didn't need anything larger than a 33" tire. (for clearance issues, or whatever else. Interco has NEVER catered to the mall crawler crowd... ok.. maybe w/ that stupid Thornbird tire... but other than that! )

Oh... and Boggers are great for MUD, but have ZERO lateral traction. Scary when sidehilling!

How much would you say a 32" Hankook dynamic mt goes for? And did you ordered yours or got em at a tire shop?

There's an H2 in Truckin' SUV with 49" IRok's. I think its built by NASA for their upcoming Mars expedition. HS is it big!! That thing will make any of our yotas look like Toys...
