ok so heres whats happening so far: i pulled the spark plugs, cleaned them, turned over the engine with the key and oil went EVERYWHERE. im talking 15 - 20 feet out of the engine bay it was crazy. but back to the point... then i put them back in and put some oil in the engine and started it up. took about 3-4 seconds and started smoothly. my only problem is that the check engine light is on and white BILLOWY smoke is shooting out the back. i waited about ten minutes for this to go away but it never did and had to drive it about a mile to my house. when accelerating i couldnt even see out my back window at all and it looked like the car was on fire from all the smoke. it doesnt smell like burning oil and i have no idea at all what it is...any ideas?

Yes maybe a blown head gasket, I would check your anti-freeze. If its white then most likly your leaking anti-freeze, and if its that much your temp should of been up but with only a mile you probaly woundnt be able to tell.

You likely pushed leftover oil into the exhaust system that will take some time to get out as well as coated the o2 sensor(s) that would result in the ECU throwing codes.
I'd say some Seafoam cleaning and pulling/cleaning of 02s may be in order.

Sounds so far like everything is ok, the smoke is from all the oil that was in the cylinders, and got into the exhaust manifold, and exhaust. This will take probally several days to clear up. As for the cel, if I had to guess it's the o2 sensor being tripped by the burning oil, but to be safe pull the code and see what it is. Good luck and I like 4hummers idea

yeah maybe... i guess ill run it tommorow for about an hour unless it clears up. its not antifreeze because the tank is full and not leaking. its REALLY bad smoke though. but it runs fine (no knocking or anything)

Yeah I want one with the white smoke. When you clean your O2, use throttle body cleaner and do it when it is cold.

yeah bro sorry to hear about your runner. 2 years ago, i had a 99 black 4runner, highlander 5speed. I was late for school, came around a turn with 2inches of snow on a narrow road, lost control, hit a cow fence and rolled it two times. I landed on my wheels, and luckily no one was hurt. I actually drove it out of the field i was in, adn home. As far as insurance goes, if you have compensation, yeah they will pay for it, but most likely they will total it. They said my frame was bent, but i thought different. Plus your insurance will be jacked up for at least 3 years, adn trust me, thats no fun when runner insurance isnt cheap to start with. Glad your alright.

sorry to hear about the rollover.

i rolled my rig about 2 years ago doing something stupid as well. i did a 360 and luckily, i landed back on my wheels. the rollover pushed my battery down and disconnected the cables, but all i did was reconnect them and start it back up and it ran fine. like i said, i did a 360 so my rig wasn't upside down for any longer than 10 seconds.

i drove it home rolled over... the roof caved in and everything. i still drive it to this day. i love that thing. i wouldn't give it up for anything. for 500 bucks, i got a new windshield and the roof punched back out, but it was a half ass job. my windshield leaks air and so does my passenger door and my roof is still all mangled up. but i plan on getting a new roof put on in the future and a new door and i should be ready to go minus some minor body work in the rear. i might even opt for fiberglass rear quarter panels. already got flared prerunner styler front fenders and hood to replace the mangled stock ones after i rolled. they don't line up perfectly though, but for a rolled 20 year old truck, it works for me. doesn't look too bad. luckily, there was no damage to the frame or chassis. just lots of expensive body work.

i got some pics right after i rolled it. i'll post em for ya if you'd like.

hope everything works out for the best and just be cautious when wheeling. i know i learned the hard way.
