OME lift kit, medium or heavy duty?
#22
I have a 7" wide rim with stock backspacing and I've only had to beat out a dent on the rims once........ I also had a slit tire that happened the same time as the dent, haha

Thanks guys, exactly what I needed to know. I have not bought anything yet (recommendations on the cheapest place?) and just took over ownership of the runner after 10 years of driving it and actually learning to drive on it from my father. He got me new wrangler tires, but they are the wrong size I think, they are Goodyear wrangler RT/S 245/75/16, I think that's skinnier and taller, defiantly not a mud tire. Still fairly new with only like 4k on them so far I just wish I could have picked out rubber.
I think I will go medium all around, but that site you listed seems to not show an option for medium spring for the front, they just have one called stock and one called heavy duty. I don't have any mods that add weight.

Other than that it's just turning some wrenches - be sure you soak all the bolts in Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster the night before to help save your knuckles and patience.

Are you going seriously offroad these rim/tire combo? I ask because your probably going to run into pinching and denting issues with the 8" wide rim with the 10" wide tire. I have 3 friends who wheel (2 that really wheel, and 1 that occasionally does) and they have all have dented the hell out of there rim lips.

Fink you'r info has been great, one question tho.. On the TRDparts4u site they have the kits but they call them something different, one says sport firm one sport soft etc. Which one is the medium?
The car club is at the college I am taking classes at, they have lifts and an instructor for the shop courses sponsors it. He said it would be easy when I talked to him. I shopped around and places were looking in the manual and saying it would be another 700 for a simple install so I will just do it myself as I want to learn how anyways.
PB blaster for sure, I learned my lesson working on my 3000GTs exhaust.

Honestly, for the money the Sonoran Steel economy front end kit is the way to go on the front of your truck. I did that up front on my 2002 runner and OME 890s/N86 on the rear. The front is solid but not jarring over bumps, the rear is a bit more firm and rebounds when not loaded down. Overall, I am very pleased with my set up, but if money was no object, I would go all SS 1.2 kit.
Just a couple more pennies for you.

They know their stuff and can help direct you to the right product.
If for some reason you get the wrong one, they stand behind the products they sell as well as the advice they give you.
You might also call OME - they are some of the best people to work with when it comes to this stuff.
Always willing to help, knowledgeable and most of them drive Toyota's.

I'm running 883s front and 891s rear with Michelen LTX tires 26/70/R16 with and ARB and 100+ lbs of warn winch.
Honestly I think the ride is really smooth. I drive about 80 miles a day with it and have bad rheumatoid arthritis and had back surgery a couple years ago so if I don't think its a rough ride I dunno how anyone can say the 883s make a rough ride

Hey ED ROCK, Loveland is real close by.
So based on this (http://www.arbusa.com/uploads/PDF/ac...ota4Runner.pdf) I think I should be getting 880/906/nitrocharger (sport?) since I don't have a winch and probably wont get a bar. Or are there benefits to going with heavier duty springs aside from weight/towing?

the only benefit for the med and heavy duty front coils is to accommodate additional weight and maybe the fact you don't have to run a small top plate spacer cus they are a little taller than the reg duty fronts. That's pretty much it. Now for the rear, there are many speculations with this. I have heard a few people that get the 906's actually turn around later and get the 890's or 891's. The 906's have a tendency to sag pretty easily over time. Especially when towing. If I were you, get the 881 fronts with top plate spacer and 890 rears along with some OME comfort ride shocks. You will love the ride and still be able to handle the most common offroad situations along with run some bigger tires.

Here's the biggest question IMO, do you want about 3" or 2" of lift?. 881s w/ the top spacers and 890s will give you 3" and a great standard-duty ride. If you want 2" of lift, 881s w/o the spacers and 906s will be best. 880s are a little too soft IMO and will wear and sag quicker so I would go with 881s instead (as do most of the people on here). That chart is deceiving - in the "real" world, nobody that I know of considers the 881 to be heavy duty on a 4runner.

Sweet thanks guys, I will go with 881 +spacer and 890 in the rear and nitrocharger sport shocks/struts.
Now I just have to learn how to do it without killing myself with the spring compressor.

If you buy from toyteclifts.com, they will pre-assemble them for you for $100 for both. I recommend it because that's the hardest part of the job, it takes the most time, and as you know, it can be dangerous if you don't use quality spring compressors.

ARB wont sell direct and trdparts4u's site was not letting me order.
Toytec Lifts also has a code for forum members for extra discounts if you PM "Toytec Lifts". Thanks for the link.
Code was worth $40 to me, dunno if its a % thing or what.

Installed the rear today with the help of the school club/instructor. Had to cut the top of one shock to get it out but was painless otherwise and done in an hour. Even with just the rear done it feels so much better and is much more stable over washboards and through turns. Feels planted!
Thanks guys for all your help! Now I just need to make a friend with a floor jack to get the front done.

Did you finish the install? If so, does it sit level? Got pics? I'm probably going to order the same kit (881s w/top plate and 890s). Not sure if I want to replace the shocks though...

I take it the OME comfort shocks have a longer travel than stock shocks? I checked out TRDparts4U and they don't list top plate spacers in their kit. Is Toyteclifts.com the best place as far as pricing?
