Well it was $208 to have the entire thing fabricated, Plus the $107 I spent last friday that basically was a wash

As fas as putting pressure on the driveshaft, I will just have to be real careful with it. I don't think there will be any issues, but just to make sure I'll get the runner in a heavy articulated position and give her a look see.

It looks to be pretty close to stock position (ie halfway up the collar on the tranny tailhousing).
I don't think you are going to have a problem but it would be smart to check anyway.
You'd need to rest the truck on the axle bumpstops to verify (articulating would really do much).

Thanks Jamie,

I should have the bumpstops on this weekend...hopefully. I'll inform the community of my findings.

This is the entire point of the Super Soft Bumpstop kit. Avoid over compression. He's on the right track and if you get a longer shaft, your going to want to drop those stops.

Just like ARB tells you to:

"The 890s and 891s were never designed for the 4Runner due to the amount of lift you get. Once you go above the 2" range you should be lowering the bumpstops to keep from over compressing them. When the coils start dropping down to where they are touching each other, that is what causes them to go flat from coil bind." ARB Engineer from ARB in Seattle in an e-mail to Jayson Blanchard

I agree with Steve because I don't know if there is enough length on the slip yoke to absorb all the rear end movement. If you can extend the bump stops that would be the best way to prevent bottoming out the yoke and return the suspension close to stock geometry.

I did it just because it was cool on the internet...

BTW: I have had these for a year or so and have wheeled a fair amount in Moab, CO as well as NM. My 891 coils are still providing close to 3" of lift.

Uh oh...I am still getting a vibration/griniding noise at various speeds. 55, 68, 75. This time its while I am on the gas. Do you think the slip shaft looks too far in now? I kinda thought that at first but I didn't want to jinx myself. But it looks a little too far in to me...hmmm? Could a driveshaft that is too long cause a similar problem to a driveshaft that is to short? You can see a ring inside the housing where it looks like it was 'rubbing' when it was stock...

Before with stock springs:

After lengthening:

Looks like it might be in a bit too much. What you can try is a set of OME trim packers or pull the cones and run 1" CB rear spacers. You'll get another 1/2" of lift either way.

This might pull it out just enough. It does look like it's in more now.

Man this thing is driving me nuts. I thought I had it licked. Instead of a vibration, it is more like a groaning noise when I am on or off the gas now between 65 and 75 mph.

Thanks Steve, I am still trying to decide how to handle this NEW situation grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Well I am running without the cones right now, I am trying to decide if I want to try to lift some more or just have the driveline service shorten the shaft enough to put it in the stock location. I am just not sure if putting the cones in would pull it back out enough to make a difference. I am happy with the amount of lift I have, Do you guys think I would be asking too much to have him shorten it? I don't know how they will react. They have a 30 day warranty on their work, but I am not sure how to handle it. But it does appear that they made it a little too long though. Any suggestions?

If they shorten it to where it was and I still have the vibration, then I am back to square one...

I would at least put the cones back in and try that.

Do you know exaclt how much they made it longer?

Here is another idea, the Tacoma Pre Runner has a rear locker and is a 2WD made to go off road. I'm willing to bet the 2WD 4Runner was really not.

Take a look at how the Tacoma Pre-Runner handles the rear drive shaft, possibly you could get some sort of slip eliminator parts off of that vehicle and go to a slip drive shaft.

Just an idea.

I'm gonna put the cones back in tomorrow when I swap out the bumpstops

The Pre-Runner uses this driveshaft

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

Not sure if that would work. I don't see how I could mount the center support.

Yup, I am going to measure the front and rear angles tonight again and post my findings. I am also going to call the driveline shop and discuss the length issue.

installed a new ujoint at the rear of my rear driveshaft on Saturday and my vibe's gone. I have a 4WD though so this info is worthless and shouldn't even be posting it.

It's not useless, I'm thinking of doing the same thing. What brand of U-joint did you install?, also model #.
