Nah I wouldn't worry about that. I think its a common misconception that since the engine is bigger and powerful, it wouldn't use as much gas. Or well, I've heard this come out of peoples mouths.
Its literally impossible to have more power without using more gasoline. Gasoline converts directly into power/energy. The displacement of a v8 cannot beat the fuel economy from a v6 engine.

My dad has a 2003 V-8 2wd Tundra. He gets 15 mpg max, and its stock. I get 17 mpg and I have 35's!
I'm not talking about diesels, they are much more efficient.... problem with them is the emissions. I forget, but doesn't a gasoline engine work at about 30% efficiency and a diesel is like 40-50%... less heat is being lost into the atmosphere and used for actual engine power. Pretty cool stuff. Im learning about heat engines right now in my engineering class, I'll get back to you on that one

I think it has everthing to do with gearing, the new tundra has a 6 speed. My father-in-law has one and cruising down the freeway at 70mph the tach is at 1800 RPMs
We recorded avg 16mpg with a best tank of 18mpg from Tucson to LA and back.
