ok, am i overreacting?

okay, beginning to think i am not a complete hot-headed loser here...
guess i need to communicate a bit better exactly what the circumstances are.
flamed, i did mention that i left the wheels and lugs there, but i did not mention they were mounted, my bad. at any rate, no hard feelings and i am glad that i could communicate to you, and the rest, what my complaint was and why i was so frustrated.
i will be going in today to "pick up my wheels" and see what their attitude is. i will definitely give them first crack at my business as they were nice enough to follow good business practice and test fit for me, but the ball is in their hands to fumble now.

Speaking of tire dealers - We put new tires on the car yesterday and one of them is either not properly balanced or defective (shakes at all speeds and pulls to the right) but we also noticed that they pretty badly scratched up one of the wheels. The wheels are 6 months old and pretty expensive. We know they did it because we had just washed and polished them a couple days before... and you can clearly tell it was the tire machine, not a curb rub or something.
I'm gonna give em hell on Monday!

I dont know, I think this one is a bit of a push...
Could go either direction.
You should be dissappointed, but not "upset".
Bottom line, those tires arent yours until you pay for them. You should have put a down payment on them to show good faith on your part. If youd had a downpayment on them, Id say you could then be legitimately upset.
Maybe you can put this to your advantage and get them to knock a little off the price of the tires, or some other service ?

yeah, like i said, it is their ball to fumble now. if they want my biz, they need to do right by me...in biz, that translates to $$$.

I read all the posts and wasn't going to reply cuz I am a retailer and my prespective can be a little one sided, but here it goes.
Your investment:
$0
Tire shops investment:
4 new special order tires:??
Mounting and balancing those tires:??
installing wheels on truck:???
checking for proper fit:???
removing the new and reinstalling the old:???
The shop was just trying to get back some of there investment. The shop guys don't work for free. Also ordering tires just to see if they fit seems like a good deal to me. Will the tire shop be able to send them back after they have been mounted?
Is there a world wide back order of those tires? Can another new set be ordered.
Do you have your new rims?
Clear communicaton is the key. They should have asked you if you were still interested and you should have offerd to pay for the tires.
Relax, get your new rims, your new tires, and have fun
Just my 2c.

bluedog- wrong. well, not entirely right.
my investment:
time:
energy:
frustration:
grinder: $100
new lugs: $35
not to mention gas, cell phone costs, pepto bismol etc
i watched them do the tasks you specified which took a total of perhaps 15 minutes. assuming the techs earn $10/hour (and i will give you two of them though one did most of the work) = $5
electricity to run machines = i have no idea, let us just say... $20? i am generous
total $25
aw heck, let us include their insurance costs, and the cost to have the store open for 15 min = i really have no idea, say $20 again
total $45
seems i spent more than them (which is as it should be at this point), but i definitely did not spend $0. i left the first 3 of my expenses blank, i will let you fill in the economic cost.
i was going to spend $780, i cannot believe that not built in to that cost is exactly the items you mention.
but, as the title of this thread suggests, i am certainly willing to admit if i am overreacting. perhaps we should poll

Not trying to start a fight, but the cost for the tire shop are way more than you are calculating. I pay all of the same bills he does and he probably has more. 15min to mount and R&R 4 tires, sounds fast to me, but what do I know. He has all of his costs calculated in the wheel and tire sale but mounting tires several time does infringe on his profit which he is entitled to make.
Did you get a cell phone for this tire purchase? I have one, and I have 2500 unused minutes for the first 5 months of 2004. Want some?
The bottom line is:
Was the price on the tire good enough to make the purchase?
Do you trust the work the shop does?
Will you be happy after its all done? (not holding a grudge)
If its not, use your right and move to another dealer.
Chaulk it up to poor communication on both sides and call it a day. Time to move on.

this is been an interesting ride, this thread i mean. i posted just to vent a bit and did not really think this would carry on, but on it does.
the whole reason i am so disappointed is i have been going to this dealer for around a decade now. as i put it to them, it is a habit -- i do not even shop them it is so automatic. and i have never experienced the poor service i have received. you have only the real gripe -- the selling of my tires. what i have not included is the promises they made and did not follow through on, their indifference to basic service etc.
and i am trying to move on, you keep posting.
