Oil pump issues...desperate

Short Story: Oil pump will not cirulate oil through the engine ( it is spinning though)
Long Story: '99 tacoma, 4 WD, 2.7 Litre. Just had the head re machined and exhaust valves replaced ( burnt valve(s)). Also new fuel filter, thermostat, oil filter, etc. As well, new timing chain and components. In order to get the timing cover off, had to unbolt the oil pick up tube from the cover, which required the removal of the engin block and the oil pan. This was a pain in the a$$.

Finally got the head back, and started to put the engine back together (with the help of a buddy who is a mechanic) Got everything put back together, fresh oil and fluids. Started 'er up and she purred...sounded beautiful...I was stoked (only ran for about 10 sec, because of the oil light).

Unfortunately, the oil light came on. Immediately shut it down. We checked the oil pressure, and there was none. Oil sensor was fine, so we tried priming the pump directly from the sensor hol. No go. Then we overfilled the engine (about 10 qts oil) hoping the level would be high enough to reach the pump. This worked-pump started circulating, light went off. Immediately shut down and drained the oil to the proper level. Now tried, and nothing...no oil pressure. Finally we took the oil pump cover off to see if oil was even getting to the pump at the normal 5.7 qt level. It wasn't..no oil even leaked out. So, packed it with petrol. jelly, (Hayes manual said to do this), and tried once more...still no oil pressure.

Called every mechanic in town and two Toyo dealers. They had no clue what the hell to do. Both of us are baffled...we don't know what else it could be. The oil pick up tube isn't plugged, and it got a new gasket upon rebuild. Any help would be great. Only mode of transportation, in desperate need of my vehicle back.
