I finally have time to perform the timing belt, water pump, etc, job. I planned to also install this oil filter relocation kit since I was gonna be in there wrenching away. Sorry for not taking progress photos but at least I took some post work photos. I decided to mount it there because the splash shield can protect the oil filter from road and trail stuff and the unit still remains out of the way of other engine components. I could of opted for an external oil cooler but chose not to, for now at least. I could have also purchased one of those fancy non-marring wrenches to keep the fitting pretty but prettiness wasn't my ultimate goal. I may add an oil pressure gauge in the near future...
It's a fairly straight forward install if one is mechanically inclined, as most of you are. The only thing I needed to fab up was the mounting plate (3"x4"x.25") for the oil filter mount. In photo #3, the upper hex is fasted to an already existing threaded (M8x1.25) mounting location on the frame. I only had to drill and tap (M8x1.25) another hole below the existing one for the second hex. I used lock washers, fender washers + red Loctite for those fasteners. All of the hardware is Stainless Steel (M8).
