The recommended weight is 10w-30 and thats what I use. It gets down to 0 deg occasionally during the winter, but the engine turns over just fine. I also use synthetic oil.

thanks guys, I'll stick to the dyno stuff since the motor has probably had a cleaner day in it's 185k of life. if it was fresh, then synthetic would do

I didn't change mine over to synthetic untill it had 195,000 miles. Its never run better since and zero leaks.

hmm, really, I noticed a leak on the ground today for the first time. the car sat overnight on an incline driveway and there was one small drop.

any special procedures you do to switch over from dyno to synthetic so the two don't mix?

Full synthetic + lots of miles= bad idea.

I run Valvoline Maxlife--semi synthetic with additives to reduce oil consumption

Good stuff

what's this diesel oil you talk of? I run regular oil in my diesel air compressor. I could switch both to this diesel oil and save some coin

Is this compressor oil you're using or motor oil?
This amsoil is a little expensive, but I use extended drain intervals.

Chevron Delo 400 or Mobil Delvac 1 would do just as good a job if change using your regular oil change intervals.

valvoline 10w30 leaks out the valve cover once warm so I'm going back to 10w40. havoline has a good additive package along with chevron supreem, castrol gtx is good also.. those three are my favorite dino oil.

During the cold winter weather in Maryland I'm running Castrol 5W30, in the beggining of Spring I'll switch to Valvoline Max Life 10W30 like I've been using in my previous cars.

dyno oil for the diesel, compressor oil for the compressor (that reminds me that it's due for a change)

I have a tone of blow by (think my rings are shot) so I just add a quart about every other day (approx 10-12 hours) and every month I change the filter. It just about does it's own oil changes.

for the truck I ended up getting a synthetic blend, is this stuff any good?

I think snythetic blends are mostly dino oil. Synthetic blend is more of a marketing gimic from what I've heard. You think you are getting a 50/05 blend when in fact its only like 10%syn to 90% dino. Not worth the cost to me.
