oh my god (it wont start)

i replaced my clutch master and slave today, drove it to the store and it felt like new. i got back, changed the oil, went to start it. it stumbled for a second then died and never started again. it cranks fine, its got compression and spark, so im guessing its a fuel thing but what could have caused this?bad luck? its a 94 4x4 pickup 22re?

thats actually pretty funny cause i was on empty and the first thing i did was go and get gas in a can and bring it back, no good. do you usually hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key? cause theres no sound and i cant remember if it ever made one.

most likely your fuel pump, same thing happened to me when i replaced a tranny on a 240sx,got tranny then it didnt want to crank over, try spraying some starter fluid in the intake and crank it and see if it will crank over,

yeah thats what i was thinking hi des runner but its a weird coincidence that i was working on something completely unrelated the same day. thats a good idea with the starter fluid, i was also thinking about disconnecting a fuel line up at the engine and seeing if fuel poured out when i turned the ignition on. your ideas prolly a bit safer tho haha

Thats the way I found out my fuel pump was dead. Disconnected it at the fuel filter actually. Had to have it towed home the first day I got it, at the BMV getting the title transfered to me!

well, the fuel pump is definitely good, i checked that today. i thought it was getting compression, but i only checked that by pulling the plugs, so i wasnt sure. i put my hand over the intake and had someone crank it and it sucked and blew air, so its mechanical. im thinking maybe the timing chain jumped a couple teeth. a while back i changed the oil pan gasket and i found a couple pieces of guide in the bottom of the oil pan. i also took the valve cover off today and the chain is still on, although not particularly tight. does my theory sound right?

I dont think it could of jumped a tooth. But then again i dont know how loose they get, but still highly unlikely. When you changed your oil was it milky?

Check your injectors. there pretty easy to pull and test. Replace the $3 seals when you put them back in..

Disclaimer... Do not test fire towards eyes, open flames, or anything else stupid..

First do the fuel pump test on 4crawlers page... << Lots of good reading here.

make sure you didn't kill the chassis ground. i accidentally hit it once and that was enough to cause the ground to break a few strands...

check neg voltavge from the pos terminal of the battery to the engine block =)

Dont forget to check your fuel filter!! when was it last replaced? you can try cranking it a few times then pull a spark plug and see if it smells like fresh gas...if so, your getting fuel past the filter...if not 22.99 at AutoZone may fix it!

well thanks for the ideas but i dont think any of them apply here, although i did replace the fuel filter. im pretty sure the timing chain must have jumped a couple teeth, im just hoping i didnt ruin my valves

i took the valve cover off today and put the engine at tdc and the dot on the cam timing chain gear was not vertical, it looked like it was off about 4 teeth. i checked the distributor also and it wasnt pointing towards the number 1 cylinder, it was about 30 degrees off, so i guess i found the problem. im just hoping the valves werent damaged
