Odd behavior - 3.0 V6

Today I go to start the 4runner and no go. Its turning over and sounds like it wants to start. I start investigating. As i pulled the #1 wire from the dist and start crank it over to see if i have a spark it starts. Its running rough as its trying to arch, so i put it back on. Turn it off for a second, and it will not restart. Pull the #1 plug off it starts again. This time i let it run for a bit and havent had a problem since. Any ideas WTF that was all about?

Have you done any work to it lately?
Anything happen before it did this?....or just all of a sudden?

Possibly bad cap or rotor? I know I had a rough start, not as bad as you are describing and when I got a new cap and rotor it started like cake...just a thought.

Maybe bad plugs? I dunno, I'm shootin in the dark here man. But a new cap & rotor are cheap and couldn't hurt unless you just replaced them recently.

My $.02

My bet is on a bad plug wire. Its probably developed a short in it and when you pull it off and on you managed to move the wire into the correct position and complete the circuit. Replace the cap, rotor and wires and I'll bet your problem will be taken care of.

It is somewhere between the rotor and the plug so just replace all the tune up stuff (cap, rotor, wires, plugs) and be done with it. I asked if anything happened just in case (sometimes people fail to give us critical info (like I am running lean - I just took off the intake or it won't start - I just changed all the wires....well, duh!).

I would just do a good ole' tune-up on that rig of yours and I bet your problem will be solved and your truck will love you even more!
