My buddy is wrapping up a frame swap on his ‘99 4Runner. I wasn’t there throughout the process, but he claims that he disconnected pretty much every electrical connection from the engine back.
At this point, the truck does not start. Only faint clicking within the fuse housing (in the engine compartment). No starter solenoid clicking or anything.
All other electrical items seem to function as normal.

Any thoughts?

What have you gotten yourself into?

• all the grounds?
• ecu connectors?
• starter?
• any connections from the column for the ignition cylinder?

was this just a frame swap? When I did the frame resto on my 94 pickup, I unplugged the harness at the ecu and fished everything out the firewall and laid it across the motor. Where did they split for this?

 

Yes, just a frame swap, but he admitted unplugging way more than he needed to.

After fiddling with it, trying to jump it, replacing the starter relay, nothing worked. Then his son noticed that the gear indicator in the instrument cluster didn’t match up with what the shifter displayed....

Adjusted the shift linkage underneath and the truck started right up.
