No OD Button....

Well.
I was taking off the Gear Shift Handle To Clean...
When my OD Button Decided to just spring open on me....

Here is as it lie now...

Notice how a spring is missing,
Yeah thats long gone somewhere in Tess...
So Why not just use another spring..

Here is were my problem lies...

The circled area is where a little piece of metal should be.
That little piece is the guide to allow the button to be either in the on or off
position.

So here are my questions.

1) How much am I gonna be charged for a new Button?
2) Can I even drive without the button till the new one get here?

I searched a little bit on discounttoyotaparts.com and didn't find anything. Another great site is partznet.com

I think TACOZILLA (I think thats the name) works at a Toyota dealer and may be able to help you out. The switch will probably be around $35

If only there was an abundance of Junkyards around here with 3rd Gen 4Runners (or Lexus ES300, but thats another story).

I guess After I get her all back together again I will check a few junkyards Down In MD that had a couple of 3rd Gens when I was looking for a skid plate....

around here there are too many junk yards! I will send some up there to you! lol. But that would be your best bet for a cheap fix. Now if you have a lot of $$ you can take it to a stealer and they can get you a new switch.

I can install the button myself, it is actually engineered really well.
I think I just applied pressure to the wrong place and i got nailed in the eye when the spring shot out...

I think I will be moving to Texas then.
I love going around junkyards and getting my hands on things that I think are useful.

Well I guess that means in the morning I will have to keep the car under 35mph till the engine and tranny warm up....

I use the od button to remind myself not to push the engine and tranny till there all nice and warm, then I turn it off when i see that the gauge is up and the engine is warm.

Avy...find the wires going into the switch and splice them together temporarily. this will get you OD for the time being. the switch is just a normally-closed pushbutton IIRC.

So I decided to go to the stealership to get my heart rate pumping up a little....

Got the price on the button.....
Drum roll if you would like
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
$51.40.......

So yeah.
Gonna borrow moms car tomorrow and stop by the junkyards in MD.

See if I can find me any 4WD 3rd Gen 4Runner To Pull that button Off....
and while I am there
Moms Lexus needs a new hood, bumper, quarters, and front lights anyway so....
(I get to do all the work to the little deer incident.... Since our insurance rates dropped a nice bunch.... She is going to pay for the parts and paint... I am the labor...)

If anyone happens to be going to the junkyard and comes across a #rd Gen that 4wd and still had the button for me, if they could pull it for me along with the wires?

I refuse to pay $51 for a button....

DO NOT bother with harry's u-pullit. I was there looking for parts for my 2nd gen (the 1994 i sold) and some stuff for my jetta. NO third gen 4runners, at all. I was looking, too. they may have gotten one since I was there back in october, but I kinda doubt it. Plus, do you really want to pay the $10 or $5 admission and come out skunked?

meh, check the classifieds
