Nitrous and igniton setups

IM intrested in running nitrious kit on my '97 4runner 3.4L I read that you cant use platinum plugs on nitours, they burn to hot. So what plugs can i use on my runner, im bafled as what to use. On the upper frame in the engine it says use twin ground electrodes, im assuming you cant tune the NGKs and the Denso's since they area single ground.

Also Im looking to change my igniton coils, I want To run somthing that high performance, is it possible to just change the coil? I know the stock coils are plug and play, does anyone know if aftermarket ones are? Please help me,I need to get this done ASAP

Hi there...first off you can use a ZEX nitrous kit. With that said, ZEX makes a triple ground strap plug that will work like a charm for you. The plug is designed for force induction motors as well as nitrous equipped. The reason you should not use platinum is that harmonic frequencies inside a forced induced or nitrous equipped motor can cause the platinum tip to become dislodged from the plug and end up in your motor...not good

As far as an ingition coil...Jacobs makes a nice one.

Hope this helps!

Mike

Jacobs makes replacement, high performance coils for the 5VZ-FE???

I'm going to look at the Jacobs website. But in the meantime, Big Kahuna, here is a thread with some information about a high-performance ignition system that will work on our trucks.

Hey Dr Z, I was kinda making a broad statement in regards to Jacobs coils...I would have to check to see they have an application. Sorry for the confusion

Hey Mike,

I kinda figured that, but I thought I would check because they may have built something. So far, the only application Jacobs has for DIS systems is Ford specific.

There is a company who does build coils that will work on DIS systems. Here is their website. I have not contacted them to see if they build a coil that would be plug and play on our trucks. I found them a while ago while searching for such things.

From what I can tell, the MSD DIS-4 seems to be the best thing going when keeping the stock ECU intact.

Peace!
