New VVTi for 2005

Has anyone driven the 2005 4Runner with the upgraded V8?

270HP, 320 lbs torque, and supposedly a pretty nice jump in mileage.

the mpg is not rated yet (still testing apparently). we'll see the exact specs once the truck is released.

I heard that the 2005 Sequoias are arriving on lots already with the new engine. Why 4 months until 4Runner gets it?

Maybe because they are produced in different factories.

If the mileage is anything like the improved V8 in the BMW 4.4 with similiar VVTi then mileage should increase 1-4 on the highway and 1 in city

BMW uses valvetronic on the new V8's, which is a generation or two ahead of VVTi. It elimates throttles and gives you in theory an almost infite valve opening and timing range. I wouldn't be too optimistic in MPG improvements, but lets see. Seems the current guess is 1-2 highway and city.

BMW is way ahead of everybody, funny how everyone says they are problem prone, I got more then a few friends that drive pretty new Bimmers and they are nothin but an oil change every 15k

Back to the VVTi, why is Toyota leaving the LandCruiser/LX out of the power upgrade

new tundras and sequoias already on the lots, 5-speed auto + v8 with vvti. only some of the dealerships tho.

*edit* ...and you may have to look yourself on the lot, because the floor staff doesnt always know the trucks are there, or want you to know theyre there (ie sell the 04 back stock first, etc.)

Thanks to the internet, many customers know what they want and if the dealer has it, to go into a dealer not knowing what the cars have on them and what they cost is letting the salesman who knows practically nothin take advantage of you.

Most dealers hide the newer models in the back or on different lots, many people have no clue when it comes to upgrades or slight changes
