yep.

hey, you should talk to correy or one of the mods and see about possibly setting up an OEM parts section. That way we could post for price quotes or any other questions and then give you a call with an order.

...It looks like this thread may have been slightly hijacked, sorry livlarg.

3.4 swap

Ok, after looking at everything it is going to be just under $15,000 to do it. I would suggest buying a new truck. The cost is so much due to new short block, tranny, engine mounting bay, wiring harness, ecu, and some other smaller things along the way

V6 upgrade

With all the parts and labor included not to mention the body work that would have to be done on the engine bay it might even be more than that. This was straight from one of our best techs here.

DANG!

Why so much, I know of people that have put other engines including V8's.
How much would a used 3.4 be?

We used to be able to get full engines however we stopped using that company. The only thing I can only get a partial block, with pistons, bearings, & crank assembled. Toyota doesn't sell a whole head together and you would have to part and price out the whole thing. In other words it wouldn't be cost effective to get a whole engine from me.

Block $2,038.91
Heads $521.00 a piece

You would still need the camshaft, valves, seals, etc...

The whole thing wouldn't be worth it coming from me unassembled and having to pay shipping on it. The price I gave you earlier would be if you brought it to me and had it assembled and the body work done to the engine bay. I can get you the block but I think that would be the best buy you would get from me. The head would be to expensive since it doesn't come in a package. Plus you have the tranny, harness, and camshaft to go as well. This is according to my techs that are trained and certified. Please don't take it as though I was trying to brush you off. I will be more than happy to quote you or get you anything you need I just think you might be able to get whole assembled engine for a better price elsewhere. Let me know what you want to do and I can go from there.

Todd

Thanks for the info, I think that it would be best if I just searched the salvage yards and ebay for a complete engine. I need to do my suspension first anyway.

Hey Todd, heres a few questions. I'm really interested in swapping in a 4.0L into my Tacoma in a few years. Someone told me that the 4 speed ECT auto tranny on the new 4Runners is the same tranny as the old 4Runner/Tacoma tranny. Is this true?

I'm not gonna buy a new engine but find one from a wreck in a few years with relatively low miles and put it in and sell off my current 3.4L to help pay for it. I'd be fabricating engine mounts and probably get custom headers to clear what needs to be cleared. But what else would I need. I can't imagine I'd need much else if it bolts right up to my current tranny.

You got any dimensions on the new engine in comparison to the old engine. Is it physically much bigger? Or is it the 3.4L basic design with an aluminum block bored to 4.0L and higher compression? Looking at pictures its, I noticed that the airbox is still on the same side and the exhaust is still on the passenger side (?).

Any help you could provide would be great. If I do this I'm gonna get some minor head work done because I'm probably gonna replace the head gaskets myself no matter how few miles just to be safe, never know on first year engines.

I bet if you look hard enough, you will find a complete motor for a good price. The show up on eBay every now and then from salvage yards. I have a buddy who just bought a computer for a 96' for $100. This harness will make it easier.

But the question still remains.
Just how hard is it to swap a 3.4L into a 88' 4runner with a 3.0?
