Hi all just joined Yotatechjust bought a 99 4runner. Looking forward to offroading again, after a long absence, anyway. on my old Toyota 4x4 what I did after I replacing the stock fuel filter, I realized this is a pia to do. so I found an easy to reach place in the fuel line along the frame and added an in line fuel filter. Cut out a section of the steel line and put in a fuel filter that uses the rubber hoses and hose clamps. Now all I have to do is replace that one and leave the stock one alone.

If the stock one is clogged .. you really haven't done anything beneficial by adding another one

Greetings,
I had a 22RE. CHanged the filter and never wanted to do that again. I moved the thing to the top of the inside fender well. Small about of tubing, some fittings and poof, no more headaches.
I also change the fuel filters every 10,000 on any fuel injected engine. The pressure is important to the injectors. Once moved, it easier than changing the oil.

Also put a small amount of anti-seize compound on the fittings, next time they wall come out with no trouble at all.

okay, I must say that Maddogs post proved invaluable to me while changing my Fuel filter. I started out using an open end 14mm wrench and damn near rounded off the front fuel line bolt. I checked out this post and found out about "flare wrenches". I did an image search to find out what they look like and bought a 3 piece set for $8 at Pep Boys. I must say...dont even attempt this job until you have a 14mm flare, it makes the world soooo much easier. I also used the large nut on the back of the filter as my pressure point (much more leverage) and simply held the flare while it was locked on at the front. Easy money! I did not have to mess with the cross member at all.

Long live MADDOG! lol

and yes, the trottle response did improve upon filter change. I re-set the computer as well, though I dont know if it was necessary or not.
