By any chance, any know a good tech/mechanic in Fort Worth, Texas? I have a 2002 4WD 4Runner (105,000) and got a rear seal leak after recent mission trip to Mexico. Stealership want an arm and leg. I am unsure if I should replace everything: inner and other seal and bearing, brake shoes, both sides etc? Overall just a bummer. Any help and or advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

 

Are you talking about a leaky axle seal? It sounds like it based on your mention of brake shoes. If so, do it yourself. The axle seal is a $12 part and doing the brakes is simple. For kicks I went to the dealer and got a quote when I found mine leaking and they wanted $600. I did everything (axle seals, rear brakes, turned drums) for under $75.
