My new baby!!!! (FJ-40)

Well, after months of hand-wringing, starting with an FJ-40, followed by 1st gen yotas, 2nd gen yotas, jeeps, back to 1st gens, I finally purchased my project vehicle that I'll be pouring my blood, sweat, tears and money into over the next few years. Last night I wrote the check that got me a 1973 FJ40. It was purchased from ChrisCo, a yotatech (and WATTORA) member and an upstanding member of the Northwest yota community.

I'm really looking forward to increasing my skills as a mechanic with this vehicle. I'll be doing alot of things for the first time. Am I a bit nervous about getting in over my head? Hell yes! However, I'm not afraid to ask for help. Chrisco has gotten it to the point of it being a great foundation to work on, and I'm currently in the "research" stage of deciding what I want this vehicle to look like, and what its purpose in life will be. Anyways, I'm happy as hell to be a newbie Cruiserhead! :drum:

And before anybody asks

One more pic. It was dark when I stopped by last night, so pardon the quality of the pictures.

Sweet Glad to see you went with the project vehicle over the already built. I know were to get newer shoes if you need'em.

Thanks guys! First thing to order is a full top to keep out the Northwest rain in case it needs to be outside for a while, though the bikini top does a pretty good job of keep the cab dry. I'm researching lifts right now to be able to fit 35's underneath.

Good choice dude. The build-up is a journey, not a destination.

Looks like its in pretty good condition...does the body need any kind of work? How much rust is on it...with it being that old I figured it might have a pretty good amount of it, looks in pretty awesome shape!

Body is in decent shape, for a old timer. This will be primarily a trail rig. I'm probably going to put Herculiner or some sort of bedliner on the inside, will make it easy to hose out after a day on the trails

Congrats on the new toy

Good call on the bed liner idea... I always said that, if I'd ever found a reason to remove the tub, I'd do the same.

I like his idea! A "trail only rig"... good concept! Having a trail rig just makes it that much more fun out on the trails, ie: no worry of minor carnage and the peace of mind that you got a DD to fall back on I say mod that 40 out and wheel the {censored} out of it! Problem is that you get it full on trail worthy, then just sit and stare at it in the yard for hours... did I say that outloud?

Well, sooner than later I'll have to have you guys over to help me install some parts....I mean have you over to see it! As mentioned above, at least I don't have to worry about not making it to work if I bust something offroading.

_NICE_ DAVID!

I had lunch with ChrisCo, Rob, Donna, Gene, Greg and Craig yesterday and this now explains Craig's & ChrisCo's conversation of "So, you sold it huh?" "Yeup".

Rock on!
