My first attempt oil change on 2004 4Runner

Hi,

I'm about to change the oil and filter on my 2004 4Runner SR5 V8 2wd. I'm going to do it myself. Can you tell me what size metric socket do I need for the oil pan plug and how much torque to tighten it. To change the oil on this vehicle I think you first need to remove that cover (not sure what it's called) underneath the vehicle in order to have access to the oil drain plug and filter. Do I need to jack-up the vehicle? I hope I can do the whole oil change without jacking up the vehicle.

Thanks

Jack

It's probably 10, 12 or 14 I imagine. Just as tight as you can get it should be fine IMO. It's called a skid plate and no need to jack up the vehicle as you can just slide under there. Your owner's manual should have some good info on how to do all of this.

torque is usually around 23 ft-lb. get a Haynes manual and it will give you a step-by-step as well as torque values.
