My catalytic converter was stolen
So, I got in my 4runner after work to go home and started it up to hear the most blaring sound I've heard come from a car ever. I first thought my muffler blew a hole because it was in pretty sad shape, but the more I thought about it I realized what happened. I was halfway home on the highway when I realized this. They cut my muffler too.
I decided I'm going to do the repair myself. I've found a Walker stainless steel muffler and now I'm trying to find the very best aftermarket catalytic converter I can get for the money unless I can find a good used one. I've tried to look for part outs in the Kansas City area but no luck at all.
If anyone has a federal emissions toyota cat for a 2000 V6 4runner single cat setup they would like to get rid of, let me know.
Thanks

I'll give them a try. Problem is that salvage yards can't sell them without a certain license and pretty much none of them get it due to the expense. What would we do without our wonderful government?

Got mine stolen two weeks ago the same week I was going to get my smog and registration done.I saw my exhaust pipes hanging and I knew right away what happened.I dont understand why recycling places are not caught buying those for scrap more often.I guess law enforcement does'nt care.I had to get a new one and it was $180 for a Magna Flow.An unexpected expense that really sucked.

I thought this was less common now that they've been cracking down on salvage centers. Suppose it still happens, they might have a backyard refinery going on
I think your only option is to buy either an OEM (expensive) or aftermarket CAT. On the plus side, you're not in CA and don't have to get the special price hiked CAT.

It's actually Federal Law. No selling used cats and no installing them in vehicles.

...and used cats are "non-complying."

The installation of non-complying converters by a named party will be considered
a violation of section 203(a)(3) of the Clean Air Act, and the violator may be subject to a civil
penalty of up to $25,000 for each improper installation
