Are my brakes bad?

Yesterday I was driving along side a wall and heard a high pitch squeek squeek squeek coming from my front wheel. It sounded like it was related to the speed I was going. Then I lightly applied the brakes and noticed the sound went away. Is it time for new brake pads? Thanks

Yes that is the pad indicator that you are getting low. Pull the wheel off and take a look. You have life left in the pads when the squeeling starts but don't let it go too long, you will end up grinding metal to metal and rotors don't like that (neither does the person in front of you, when you crash into them).

Could be that your rotor(s) need resurfacing.

Keep in mind that sometimes brakes are just squeeky. Take a look at the pads and see how worn they are.
