Mine did the same thing this weekend when it snowed and dropped down to -19 degrees. I believe it's just frozen parts that aren't fully disengaging. I'm not worried. I got it to go off once but it's back on now. I'm sure it will go off when it warms up.

Just look at the reservoir and see if you're running low. If you are, then just top it off with dot 3- it should say right on the cap of the reservoir what to use for fluid, but I'm guessing its dot 3. Probably easier than deflating and inflating all 4 tires.....

Guess you didn't notice the subtle hints to check your brake fluid first , all you have to do is open the hood and you can see if you're low.
IIRC, the brake light is activated by two switches one that is activted by the emergency brake handle, and one in the brake fluid reservoir, there is nothing else which will activate it (wacky alternator *may*, due to "poor electricity"). So either 1) the sensors are bad, 2) the E brake switch needs adjustment or 3) the brake handle is pulled or 4) the brake fluid is low.

Another "check your brake fluid" suggestion, with a twist. If the fluid is indeed low, you might want to check all lines for a leak, and check all pads and shoes for wear. If the system is working as designed, the fluid level sensor is supposed to be calibrated to go off when the pads/shoes have worn to the point they need service.

Ditto here, fluid level was fine but the sensor went bad. The sensor is still disconnected from wiring harness!

Another thing to check if in fact your fluid is low, HOW MUCH LINING IS LEFT ON YOUR BRAKE PADS?! Last time my fluid was low enough to cause the light to come on, the front pads were almost worn down to the point that they would have started scoring the rotors very soon.

So what was the final verdict??!?!?!?

I had a problem with mine after replacing the parking brake cable. There is a little tab that is splined and fits into a splined hole in the parking brake handle shaft. Somehow the little tab keeps falling out which allows the switch that supplies power to that indicator to illuminate. In my case it was NOT the brake fluid.

recap>

((!)) changes intensity when hand brake is disengaged but doesn't completely disappear. brake performance hasn't decreased since this started.

checked the brake fluid.
1. brake fluid reservoir is by the firewall drivers side?
2. it's full and theres a big junior mint looking thing that's floating, is this normal?

what can be wrong?

That 'junior mint' is the float sensor, if it is working, it triggers the sensor to light when the fluid level drops too low.

Take the fuse out and throw it real far. Should work. If not try changing your muffler bearing.
