Check your alternator.... I know it may sound weird, but when my alternator when kaput, my brake light wouldn't go off... if I remember, somewhere, somehow in the wiring they are connected. But mines an 87 22RE, slightly different from yours.
|
Did someone mention brake fluid?
:) |
None of these guys know what they're talking about... check your brake fluid!
;) |
Did anybody mentione to check your brake fluid level? :hillbill: But seriously, check your brake fluid level though.
|
If your brake fluid level is ok, replace the master cylinder cap. Inside the cap is a level sensor that makes the light come on when the level is low. I had this issue on my 87 4Runner, and replacing the cap made that go away.
|
it could be the e-brake switch.
|
My brake light was on. It turned out to be my master cylinder cap sensor. I can,t remember how much the dealer wanted but it must have been a lot because a just ended up disconnecting it. The light will come on when the emergency brake is pulled , so I figure why bother replacing it.

Bunch of know-it-all's up above think they got all the answers! Ha I'll show them!
Ok Ok I'll get this one guy's. It is either your brake fluid is low, or the sensor in your cap is bad, or your e-brake switch is malfunctioning, or your altenator is going south, or your cable is sticking not disengaging under the truck. |
brake fluid.
 |
hmmm
i think...i'm no expert, but it could be that we just had an equanox shift of the lateral galixy and the fibulator might be fibunotlating. in short. The brake fluid... oh and if your lights are also dimming the altinator. but i think someone already may have mentioned these things oh say 1 MILLION times already!!! :chair:  :hillbill:
|
It could also be a bad diode in your insturment cluster. Finally, A fresh idea.
|
My brake lights stays on all the time...but ripping out the parking brake and the sensor on the MC might have something to do with it...
I'd try topping off your blinker fluid via your MC. :hillbill: :guitar: |
The muffler bearing may have seized, tripping the light fandango sensor!
|
Mine does the same thing every once in awhile. However, mine does it because of the little spring/whatever it is behind the handle. it hit its and pushes the handle out slightly making the light come on. but, I'd check what the guys above said first.
|
this happened to me - was the brake fluid. it's gonna be like right on the max line on my rig or else it will come on
