If you could that would be great. Getting ready to order the Motive off of Amazon.

I'm a huge fan of Russell speed bleeder valves. The one man brake job. You can find a two pack for $7 on Rockauto.com

You crack the valve 1/4 turn and pump the brake pedal a few times, lock it down and your done.

Whats nice is you can work on your brakes on the track or trail without anything more than a wrench and fresh fluid.

They do serve a purpose, but on an older and or higher mileage vehicle, depressing the brake pedal further than it typically goes can foul up master cylinder bore seals.

I've used my Motive bleeder for 6 years on all of our cars with great success. It does what it says it does.

Trd Tundra snowflakes? Are those the same as the TRD FJs? If not will the TRD FJ 16" will fit with 231s?

I'm so glad that i'm stumpled upon this thread. It is time for me to replace my rotors and brakes. I have a 98 limited 4runner, all stock. Hopefully i will be doing a small suspension lift this summer. I would like to go larger tires too but that's later mid/end of the summer. For right now, can the tundra mod fit on my truck? And what size?

With that in mind, what size would be ideal with 3" lift + 33's ?

Thanks in advance

This is an nice thread. Great info on re-building the calipers. I did a write up on this conversion awhile back because I couldn't find much info on the 231's. I'm going to link it here because I think it will help answer alot of the questions that will come up.

Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

I've seen them on TRD stickered Taco's.

I have heard that my steel spare will no longer fit on the front, next time I mess around with the wheels I'll give it a try. But worst case, if I get a front flat I'll just shuffle a rear tire up front, and put the spare on the rear. Or maybe just track down a later model spare that will clear the calipers.

So this is now on my short list of things to do on Project SportRunner. I have the TRD Ivan Steward wheels on my 4Runner. Does anyone know if those wheels will fit over either the 199mm caliper and or the 231mm? I'd prefer the 231s if they'll fit.

Over the past year mine has picked up significant vibration under braking. However brake pads on the front still have 40% life even after 86,000 miles! Unbelievable.

Anyway, last night I tightened up the rear brake adjustment and a test drive showed that to have helped, but the rotors may be too far gone and time to upgrade.

I put the 231's on 2 weeks ago, and they are definitely a great mod, my braking is so much better.

As far as the wheel fit, did you check out BigFishAllDay's link? He confirms that they do fit the 231's. Here's that link again:

Ah thanks for making it obvious. I had read that link but so much info I missed it.

I did some checking last night, and duh, should have remembered they offered the IS TRD Wheels for the Tundra. I took a look last night and I have about 1" of space between my stock caliper and the wheel spokes.

Glad the 231s will fit. Now to procure some calipers

Thank you.
You wouldn't by chance know if a 1" spacer would be enough to clear the 231 with LC80 wheels would you???

The only other change I made to the Motive was to add a set of CPC dry-break fittings so the tank can stay pressurized while I add fluid to the reservoir. I'm one of those weirdos who use the Motive dry.

Andreas
Where did you get that rubber boot that fits over the master cylinder reservoir?

Anything special about brake lines when doing caliper upgrade?

Do the new calipers bolt right up to the existing brake lines? If not, what did you do to get the calipers to fit the brake lines?

Another question that comes up when swapping calipers is the master cylinder bore? I'm guessing you used the same master cylinder? How does the pedal feel now with the bigger calipers (bigger calipers = more volume)? I think the master cylinder comes into play if you do a rear drum to disk conversion? Some people use the front calipers on the rear after a swap like this and the master cylinder probably should be swapped to a unit with front and rear disk brakes. This should all be designed with the system your using taking into account the volume and brake booster used and the pedal feel your after. Anyone have any input on this?

Everything is a bolt on deal. My 231mm upgrade feels very strong, much better than stock. I'm sticking with drum in the rear so I have no input on that.

Resurrecting an old thread. Can anyone confirm this is the correct part number for the caliper overhaul kit for the 13WL brakes?

04479-60080

I picked up my calipers from a local salvage yard off a 2003 Sequoia. They're in good shape but I wanna rebuild them for peace of mind.
