My 2000 4Runner w/ HID light

Ballast: Toyota
Bulbs: Phillips and Osram D2R (got 2 diff ones from teh seller)
Install Duration: ~1hr

Im very satisfy w/ the overall result. My main objective is to get a brighter lighting and still retain the cutoff for incomin traffic. However, hi-beam was lost through the conversion.

the installation was pretty simple, used couple relays.



the D2R bulbs utilized H4 base, taken off (literally) from the H4 bulb.


the Osram on the right is not as blue

above, the light spread isnt as great as you can see. what can i say, its a halogen housing....

EBAY, $147 shipped for 2 ballasts and 2 bulbs.

btw, the bulb clip held onto the bulb really tight, almost perfect.

LOL, i edited the post. no he didnt past it up.

installation took ~1 hr. if youre familiar w/ relay and multimeter, wiring is a breeze.

I get flashed at and I have stock low beams, I figure I might as well give them something to flash at me about!

just installed today, havent been on the road yet. i gotta tilt the headlight down a bit. couldnt figure out how, sunsetting and mosquitoes are everywhere. anybody know how to tilt the headlight down?

bro... Your light is scattered everywhere... This is very dangerous... You will blind the crap out of everyone on the road...

I agree, that is the reason why the projector housing is used. It creates a cutoff line to allow the light to be extremely bright, but not blind oncomming traffic. Get yourself some projector housings and retrofit them into your halogen housings.

Also, I cannot verify this, but I have heard of people doing what you did, and it actually melted the halogen housing where the bulb-holder is. HID bulbs get significantly hotter than halogens. Just something to watch out for.

itll be fine ppl, ill take care of it. yeah, im aware of the glares and it isnt that bad. i have access to a pair(buddy just have a set layin around) of tsx projector but time is limited in my schedule.

like i said above, ill tilt down the housing from the factory setting and well see. got it fellas???

projector will be a future project. who doesnt want projector to give a saturated light spread.... you know???

holy glare batman....
at the very least get some casper shields until you can retro the TSX projectors in. and if you post that pic on HIDplanet, you wil get rideculed to no end about glare. it is very dangerous. look at the sun for a second, thats what the effect is. i have casper shields and th eglare is manageable. more than i want, but less than oem reflector based HID setups (Escalade ect...)

Dude, that is illegal. I had an aftermarket HID kit retrofitted into my halogen housings and I had to take them out. It was blinding the piss out of everyone, and then the government and DOT came out with statements and websites deeming them illegal (an aftermarket kit retrofitted into a halogen housing). I would imagine it's a pretty hefty fine, not to mention the cost of the replacement bulbs. A word of advice....if you plan on leaving them in there, disable your DRLs. It will make your bulbs last much longer but my recommendation would be to take them out and eat the loss. At least you didn't spend $400+ like I did for something now sitting in a WalMart bag in the garage.

BTW....go to my website and I think I've still got some pics in there from when I had the kit installed. I loved it!!!!!

lol, the pic above of the wall was kinda of an exaggeration. i didnt know how to work the camera during the nite. instead, i got my bro to take it and it came out like that. after messin w/ the camera on a "manual mode", heres the almost exact image of what i see from about 7ft away.



HID projector is on the way. so dont worry ppl, got everything under control.
i cant really say thats a good light spread for the incomin traffic, but well see after awhile. btw, it has a casper shield.

that pic shows just how bad the spread is... For xenons, you want the cutoff to look like this... NO LIGHT ABOVE THE LINE...

Also... with projectors, use the D2S bulbs...

i know how a cut off looks like w/ a projector, and projector have actual cut-off plate. its a halogen housing and has halogen-design reflector, cnat really expect so much. ive seen couple HID reflector housing w/ HID (TL-S, GS300, G35) and compare to mine, its not that bad. iono if yall guys actually test it out urself, but my buddies drives those cars.

if you look at it, 90% of the light is concentrated in one area. so, for now, its good enough for me until i get together w/ my by buddy to do a retrofit.

But seriously go stand in front of your car at night for awhile and fully appreciate how you blind oncoming traffic, then take them out until retro-fit is done.
