Muffler recomendations

I got a 98 Runner with the v6 and need a muffler desperately. My truck still has the one from the factory and sounds like this . So my question is, what muffler works well on the V6 for: straight through design for power but a nice smooth, mellow note that isn't much louder than factory. Just looking to replace the muffler for now as there are no further exhaust leaks and the pipes look good. I know I can go to websites and listen to clips of sound, but they never seem to be good for reference, especially when they aren't of the vehicle the muffler will go on. Any recommendations or advice would be great. Also cheapness would be nice!

x2 on the 18...it's not that loud IMO but has more tone than stock. you could probably pick one up for 50 shipped on ebay. If you go VORTEX everyone knows when you come and go, lol.

I had a Vortex...it was loud. I just picked up a 18" Magnaflow off eBay for $68.00 shipping from PeddlerPerformance. Give him a Best Offer.

FavreRunner,

I am thinking about upgrading my muffler and I was looking at the 30" as well because I have personally heard the 18" and the 24" and they are a bit too loud for my taste. The only concern that I will still be using the stock tubing because it is still in awesome shape. However, the diameter is 2.25" the inlet and outlet for the 30" magnaflow is 2.5"

Is that gonna be a problem??? Also, can you guys confirm that this is the part number : 12286

This is where I will be getting it from:

Thanks for all the input fellas.

I have the cherry bomb vortex, and it sounds real good...

i had my truck running while the neighbors v8 nissan titan was running, and at idle they sounded pretty much the same...it has a nice deep sound cruising round streets, it gets heads to turn, but its not too loud...i love it

x2 on the piping, 2.25 pipes go into the 2.5 inlet/outlet and it just gets welded in place, simple job

totally agree with spence...

your muffler will need a 2.5" inlet and outlet, as the pipes on the truck are 2.25" to whoever it was that asked...
