mud problems got me grounded.

alright. im grounded. lol. i went out muddin one day with some friends, and i guess i got mud in my alternator and air filter. toasted the alt, which killed my battery.

what im lookin for here, is some info on how to keep it from happenin again. what can you do to protect your alternator and such. i know snorkels for the intake, but what bout the rest?

If there isn't a front skid plate, that will help alot. But really, the only way to keep it from getting mud in it is to not go flying into puddles.

people used to talk me into splashing around in the mud but it messes to many things up for me. gets expensive after a while.

but yea, a skid plate, and make sure that there is sufficient coverage with the flaps that keep mud from coming in to the engine bay through the gaps in the fender wells.

What gets me is.....if people put snorkels and all that stuff on to be able to drive with water up to the hood, wouldn't that put the alternator under water? How is it supposed to work if completely submerged?

yeah dij, I did the same thing to my alternator too this past weekend. Well I'm pretty sure I did. I hosed it down with contact cleaner and what not, and it's drying out right now, so I'll know tomorrow if I need to get a new one.

playing in the mud is soo much fun but damn... cleaning get expensive when you don't have a pressure washer. Plus the mud seems to get everywhere.

What are you doing for a replacement alt? OEM? rebuild?
