Question Mud flaps?

I am looking for opinions:

1. Do I leave the stock mud flaps on?
2. Remove the front stock mud flaps and keep the rear?
3. Or, do I remove them all?

Any suggestions would be great.

Keep them! Mine have saved me more than once for would-be flying debris damage. Although I did rip 2 sets off my Tacoma while out wheeling...

Mud Flaps just get in the way, besides, if you get bigger tires or any kid of lift they become worthless, so get ahead of the game

I have a lift and I'm running 285/75/r16 BFG M/T so I get a little rub from the front and the rear while flexing that is why I was wondering. But, I don't want to sand blast my paint either.

Ditch them and have the lower panels sprayed with Rhino, Line-X or some other type of liner. Been imagining that myself anyway.

That's what I am doing with my running boards. Since my wife won't let me take them off, I will just damage them on the trail, then take them off!

Do yourself a favor now and ditch them. If you offroad, they most likely will get ripped off anyway.

If anyone has the ripped off Taco Flaps, I will buy them if they are cheap.

I want to put some on my front. Since I took of the Running Boards and put on the sliders, I want some front flaps. I like the Taco version. I would just customize them to fit my 4Runner.

Partial Hi-Jack, partial endorsment of flaps.

Check your local laws ... some states require mud flaps.

Yah, I know, but, it's just another reason to keep'em.

From what I understand, those laws originally started to give officers probably cause to pull over racers and check to see if they had any illegal engine modifications.

Good reminder, by the way!

I don't know about Oregon but here in California it's the law but 70% of the trucks I see on the road do not have them on.

ah here we go...

California Vehicle Code (CVC) 27600
No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be AT LEAST AS WIDE AS THE TIRE TREAD. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.

I believe Oregon has the same type of law but I went home and took them off anyway. I looked around at work last night and I think 1 out of 5 trucks actually had mud flaps. So before I tore them off I took them off. I think it actually makes the truck look a little taller. No I won't sell, I'm keeping them just in case I get harrased by the man with the sex lights.

Hey Steelhead.
What kind of lift do you have. I just got some 32x11.5 BFG MT's but I'm running stock so I haven't put them on yet. I've heard of people running stock on this size, but I just don't think it will work so Im looking at getting a lift and was wondering what size and what kind of lift you are running (Susp/BL?).
Oh and how do you like you MT's? How long have you had them?

Rayday,
I have got the Fabtech Performance coil over system (w/ fox shocks) and fabtech aal in the rear. It is lifted about 2.5" and has the revtek front diff drop to save my front CV joints. All in all it is just about the right height for what I wanted to do. The options that are out now are almost limitless. You can look at Downe, OME, dr (Donahoe Racing), pro comp, revtek...etc. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how high you want to go.

George,

There was a thread on SoCAl TTORA about mudflaps and they were talking about getting rid of their flaps. I posted and asked if anyone had any they were trying to get rid of but nobody's answered yet.

I think they might be busy - the Pismo trip is this weekend (if I remember correctly).

If you take off the mudflaps you will get an increased amount of rocks that will fly up and hit your paint. Now since you have a light colored truck, the paint chips won't be that noticeable. Mine on the other hand, is black. You can see the paint chips as a result of taking off the running boards. I now have some 4runner mudflaps on the front and I don't hear near as many rocks hitting my vehicle.

It all depends on what you want, no mudflaps or paint chips.

That's my $.02.
