MTR's are on

I found a deal on some 285/75/16 MTR's (thanks Candido) this week, picked 'em up today, and just had them mounted.

The obligatory pics:

Yes I'd like to do something about that. Too bad I didn't have any of that spray-on fake dirt lying around!

Nice mod Tom! What kind of deal did you get? I'll be curious to get your impressions on those. MTR's are at the top of my list for my next tire.

Thanks Cebby. I got them from Ctapia, $100 a piece. They look like they have a whole lot of tread life left in them.

The OME's up front gave me all the clearance I need. I haven't had them in a fullly cranked turn yet so I'm not sure if I'm gonna rub the frame at all, but I don't think I will.

I really haven't noticed a real lag in acceleration either. No doubt its a bit slower, but it must not be enough for me to worry about. Anyway, if I'm gonna open it up to regear, a locker needs to go in at the same time.

They are definitely a bit louder than AT's, but I don't mind it. A funny note though; when we were pulling out of the parking lot, Sarah says "Why is the truck shaking?" Well it wasn't really shaking, but just a little vibration. I said "Its just the tire treads, nothing to worry about" and she was fine with that. I really only felt the treads when we were going under 5MPH.

Steve, yeah these really looked like they were worth the money. I'm really anxious to give 'em a test ride!

Man, now I'm REALLY glad I found these MTR's, and decided to mount them right away.

I had planned on holding on to my original tires for a spare set, because they still had some meat on them. When I went to pull them out of the 4Runner this morning, I found this on the inner sidewall:

Yikes, that could have been bad if it went out on me, especially if it was on the front. I have no clue how long its been like that.

Yeah, I think I remember something about that...

Actually I checked it out when I first got the 4R; they weren't the same model as the recalled ones, and the local Firestone dealer is run by a complete jacka$$ so I never bothered with it.

that's probably from one of those jerkoff nut-wadz that balanced the tires once and wasn't paying attention to hammering the weights on or pulling them off and knicked the rubber real good, in turn causing that.
