Mechanical advance question

Today I checked the mechanical advance in my truck. I turned the rotor and it was not frozen, but it seemed like it did not spring quickly. It seems like there is some resistance in there. Is this normal or is it suppose to spring back quickly?

IF it is a mechanical advance distributor it should return right back. Old dist get gummed up. Maybe a little (stressed LITTLE) wd-40 would lube/free up the mechanism.

What year/engine in your truck?

My truck is a 1987 with a carbureted 22R. I am thinking about taking the distributor out and taking it apart to clean and grease it.
