Question Max Tire width for stock P/U

Howzitt all... Found a stellar deal on a '92 Toyota P/U 3.0L V6 4x4 and decided to jump on it, sell my 4runner and have a new project to begin. I'm trying to save money for a possible land purchase so the long term goals will have to wait. I eventually want to go the 4" Super lift route with 33's and some 4:88's but for now I got some 31x12.50 Super Swamper SSR's on my 4runner on 16x8 rims that I might swap to the new truck depending on if ther person I sell it to wants to pay for them or not and if they'll fit. Waiting for the truck to arrive in a few weeks so I can't test it out... figured someone has to know if a 31x12.50 SSR on a 15x8 will fit under a stock '92 P/U?

Should fit. Might rub a bit at full turn, depending on the backspacing of your wheels.

It'll be real close but i know 31x10.50 fit well. 12.50s may also rub a bit on the rear fender at full suspension compresion.

Much Mahaloz

Much Mahaloz [Thanks] guyz... looks like its a safe enough bet to assume they'll fit for the most part other than at full compression or sharp turn under compression as mentioned. Shaka...

in my '95 PU, i just did the superlift 4" with 5" leaf springs and tightened the torsion bars an inch up front to match. i did 33s with no problem; in fact they look disproportionately small. you should have no problem stuffing 33s with a 4" lift. you may need to go for the backspacing, as flamed said, depending on how wide you wanna go. i went 10.50 with no backspacing and have zero rubbing (duh). i think another inch width in there would be easy, and probably for me a bit more height too. click my link to see recent pix.

Cool I'll try it out

Both with the stock suspension and later with the 4" Superlift I'll be using 15x8 wheels with 3.75" backspacing. Here in Hawaii its all about the wider the better though the cops been starting to enforce tires that stick out more than 2-3" from the fender flare... plus if your like me, using the truck as a daily driver and for light off-roading, going 15x10 or bigger just invite the opportunity for more rocks to screw up your paint job. I'm shooting for trying to fit the 31x12.50 on the 15x8 under the stock suspension with maybe a torsion crank and a 1" body if needed. Than, when I lift it later with the Superlift kit, I can reuse the rims and go with 33's. Hopefully that'll give me a wide enough stance and fill the wheel well enough in both cases without looking to stuffed or to small??? I'll post what I need to do to fit the 31x12.50's under the stock suspension.

I'm running 32x11.50x15s on stock suspension on my 89 Toyota 4x4 and have no rubbing issues. I think I could clear 33s from the looks of it too.

Did you mean you went with 'stock' backspacing...

You didn't need to torsion crank to fit those 32x11.50's on what appear to be 15x8 rims?

The 31 inch Super Swamper SSR's are probably the same height (Swampers always run true vs. other brands) as your tires so I'd just be going 1 inch wider on width though the rim size is going to limit just how wide the tire is when mounted.

I hope, best case scenario, I can get the 31x12.50 SSR's on the 15x8's under the truck with maybe the need for just a torsion crank... I'll just have to test it out and report back though this whole discussion is leading towards a positive result that It'll work.

I'm just another guy in a long line of tire/rim/lift combo questions!!!

Question Need feedback again!

Are those 15x8 rims?

I got my new truck off the dock and ended up selling the 4runner with the SSR's and rims so no need to make due with fitting that tire/wheel combo under the new (old) truck.

I was noticing uneven wear on the SSr's being that they were a 12.50 wide tire on an 8" rim... I know plenty guys run 12.50's on 8" rims but seems to make the tires balloon a lot and most manufacturers designate a minimum 8.5" for that wide to avoid it.

I reevaluated and think that the 4" suspension is too tall/expensive for me even in the long run (would want to go w/ 33's on 15x10's and also have to regear). I got 4.56 gears and like the pep with the stock 31's. From what I figure, I shouldn't see too much performance difference going to just 32's. I got some rims from a friend and I'm now trying to figure what I need to do to comfortably clear 32's on these 15x8 rims w/ 3.75" backspacing...

Seems like some guys get away with it under stock suspension but hope I can get some feedback on what might be needed (mild bodylift or ball joint spacer/shackle tweak). FEEDBACK???

I vote for one of the moderater to put together a matrix for what ire/wheel combos fit on what vehicles at different lift heights (assuming the "common" backspacings)!!!!

They Fit!

31x12.50 Pro Comp M/T's on 15x8 rim with 3.75" backspacing... Fit perfectly under stock suspension, no tire ballooning, clearence on sharp turns and not "stuffed" in the wheel well. Super stoked... Got the semi wide footprint without the need for added lift cost. Someone thats been around needs to make that tire fitment matrix...

31X12.5 BFG Muds on 15x9 rims with 3.5 or 3.75 backspacing (forget which) did not fit without rubbing on a stock 94 4x4 truck. The front rubbed upon turning untill I took off the mud flaps and under light compression afterwards. The rear could have rubbed under full left and right compression (like a loaded bed) but not sure when crossed up. I did not try untill I put extended shackles and added some torsion lift. Then it was good but the rear was mighty close and stuffed upon full articulation.
