massive oil consumption 3.4L

Hey.

I have a 96 4Runner SR5 with a 3.4 liter V6 and 152,400 miles. I last changed my oil & filter 600 miles prior, and since then, I have lost two and a half quarts of oil. I knew it had a minor leak or consumption issue, as I had been loosing half a quart per 4000 miles. l I can find no leak, and there are no stains on my driveway. Any ideas of what can cause something this severe?

By the way, there is no smoke, no error codes, and the engine is running relatively smoothly.

Losing a half a quart every 4k miles is quite normal.

Sure you put enough oil in it upon oil change?

Loose oil filter?

Leaking valve cover gasket, cam seal plug, spark plug tube seals, oil cooler o-rings, rear main seal are possibilities. Crawl underneath to garner a look for leaks.

Did you change the brand/viscosity of the oil?

What is the compression #'s on the engine?

some oil can dump into the skid plates and dribble out when you
are driving around. get home, the last drips stay in the skid plate

so you might still be dripping but not know it

I have examined all around the engine and can find no oil. The skid plates on the truck are currently off (but due to be put back on). The oil filter is tight as it should be.

I checked compression a few months ago and got 175 across the board
