Manual transmission help

So my wife has a '95 Tacoma 5spd 3.4L 4x4 and I am in the middle of having the bearings and seals replaced however we have discovered the transmission output shaft/transfer case input shaft has had the splines severely damaged and needs to be replaced. Toyota wants $900 and the cheapest low mileage used transmission is around $650 shipped. My buddy has a 5spd out of a '94 4 runner 3.0L and I'm wondering if the guts (i.e. the shaft) might be the same. Any ideas??? Thanks

Why so much from Toyota? Was that for the shaft only? Check with Marlin and see if they sell the part you are looking.
