I had a CEL on for months and I finally had it diagnosed: P0170 (I think), the MAF sensor.

Herb Chambers Toyota of Boston charged me $345 to replace it and told me that it "couldn't be cleaned".

Was I taken for a ride?

If it was your MAF - it can be cleaned. If it was your 02, it cannot. Either way, $345 is a crap load for either. Too late to worry though, they won't get you next time!!

also wanted to say....if you have a rear heater

check the lines feeding it. they do corrode (especially
if the thing has been jammed into repeated snowbanks) and can leak

Yea, major ripped off there. Considering you can get the part for $110, and its two screws, a plug, and about 2 minutes to replace it.

They sort of screwed me on a bunch of stuff, I think. I'm going to put a post together where I go through each item I had taken care of line by line. If it turns out they took advantage, I'll go talk back there and have them explain the charges to me.

It's all buyer beware dude. Dount they are going to do anything after the fact. Again keep in mind that going to delaerships for service is usually the MOST expensive option. Although you can usually count on the dealership for quality work.
