Ok. I have an 18" on the way and I'm hoping it doesn't drone. If it does, I may switch to the 24".

I'm sure it will be fine. I just went to the furthest extreme possible because I didn't want to take the chance of having to swap out another muffler.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a 24" aluminized magnaflow. I was going to have my whole exhaust done, but now I think I'm just going to have it welded in.

Is there anything at all you don't like about your exhaust? I know the 24" is mellower, but can you tell a difference compared to stock? I want throatier sound, but without the drone at cruising speeds.

Guys, the 18" does not drone at cruising speeds. Niether does the 14" for that matter. You will notice the growl at between 1000 and 1500 and only on acceleration.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. I don't want to get it on and be unhappy with it. Truthfully, I'm still up in the air!

Keep us updated with your likes about the 24" I am looking at doing it soon.

On another note was size is the stock exhaust piping on a 2002 taco? (2.25" or 2.5")

I'll keep everyone posted. I'm pretty sure the stock pipes on a Taco are 2.25". You can't get the 2.25" inlet/outlet on the 24" muffler, the smallest they have is 2.5", but an exhaust shop will fit it in for you.

This guy obviously knows what he's talking about so
do what you want. I'm just sharing my experience in an attempt to be helpful. It basically comes down to a matter of personal preference. Everyone that rode in my 4Runner when I had the 14" Magnaflow thought it sounded bad. .Maybe they are all nuts- I don't know. I DO know I like the way it sounds now. Good luck.

BTW, mine is a 3.4L V6.

i have the 14" on my '03. i didn't have the stock pipes replaced or anything - i just had the stock muffler cut out and the magnaflow welded in its place. it seemed *veryyy* quiet to me (i even posted on here many times about that aspect of it), so i eventually took it to a shop and had them cut off the resonator & replace that with a steel tip. that made all the difference in the world ... and now i really like my 14" and its sound.

even my mom likes it.

anyway, i don't quite know what would be considered droning, but i do notice that the 14" (now, with the resonator off) does drone a bit at low RPMs ... but it's not too bad at all, and certainly wouldn't be bothersome with the radio on.

(or even with it off, depending on your preferences ... )

good luck with your choices, and i do hope you'll update us and let us know how you're liking it once it's on.

mummer,
did you get the muffler installed yet? Do you like? I am torn between the 18" and the 24" for my 3.4 V6.

I have the muffler, but I don't get it installed next week. It looks like it's close in size to stock. I'm looking forward to hearing it! I'll keep everyone posted.

I got the 24" muffler installed today and I really like it. I don't think you can go wrong with the 24" Maganflow.

Thanks,
I am off to the muffler shop tomorrow. I am having the 24" installed, re-routing the exhaust to come out behind the leaf springs and up higher with a magnaflow tip (style to be determined).

I second that! I got my Jones(3 chamber flowmaster) taken off and put the 24" mag on and I am very pleased. It doesn't have that sharp rap in the mid rpms. Now it is softer but still has a deep rumble throughout the whole rpm range. You will never think it has a stock ehaust though so it is definately not like stock
Go magnaflow! You will not regret it on a 3.4. And if it is too quiet, just add a high flow cat or headers! My .2 cents and a big thanks to all who replied to this post!!

Thanks again Tstango!

Well I just dropped it off at the muffler shop. I decided to get the 3" double wall tip added on to the end for a nice clean look. Will let you all know more later. I will also try to post some pics and or a sound file too.
