low whistling sound at start

Never noticed it before but I'm hearing a low whistling when I start my engine in the morning. I know the source - it's the air intake. I don't know if it's the deckplate but that's the only new thing. The sound becomes less noticeable the more I drive but it is VERY noticeable after first startup when the engine's been resting for a good amount.

At first I thought maybe I left the CB on and I was hearing low volume static.
It's that noticeable!

Is this normal? Is the engine settling with the deckplate? I don't get it

Yep, I'm trying to solve that problem myself, cept my wheezing amplifies during acceleration. But that only happens below 2000rpm and only 1st and 2nd gear, maybe not so much in 2nd. It does appear to be coming from the intake or vent area. Its not too loud, but with my stereo off it can drive me nuts in crawl traffic. I wont be able to really address this until after I do some other work but let me know if you figure it out.

The 'whistling' noise you are describing does indeed sound like common intake noise. It is usually more noticeable (amplified) if a person is running any sort of open-element air filter or intake ducting/plenum modification.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless the noise is associated with a sporadic idle (which of course could indicate an intake system leak).

Some people pay $100 for that "whistling" sound

Yeah, I didn't think it would be something I'd have to worry about. I was just caught off-guard by how loud it was
