Locker worth it on a 2wd?

Yea.. it is some grunt work that will cost ya$$ But most of it is not all that hard... It is a good weekend (s) project.. Do the tranny one weekend, install the front diff next, and axle shafts and knuckles after that weekend I would say palying with it on Saturdays, and a couple friends with basic automotive knowledge could have it in 4x4 mode in less than a month.. Get a FSM and sub out the tranny sway, you can do the rest I think...

I followed in Ace's Mini which was open diffed and stiff as a board. Zero flex. It's all in the line you pick.
I 2nd that a locked 2WD with a ballsy engine could be capable. Hey it's better than nothin!
An ARB is only $1000. Heck my manual hubs cost more than that.

My first time wheelin with my Detroit installed I left my truck in 2wd for a good portion of the time. It makes a huge difference! Just air down and pay very close attention to what line you go up. I think it will make your truck better---still a 2wd, but better.

when something as small as this catches you, it makes a locker sound REALLY good when you have 2WD http://community.webshots.com/photo/...68200758wbRVkC
some sway bar disconnects would probably help a lot too

Dude that sucks. Dont worry, I got stuck behind my friends house one time in my 2WD Mazda truck.
A locker would definetly help in that situation. But, like the others said, I wouldnt waste the money on it. When all is said and done, I bet you are looking at close to a grand for everything. By that time you could have sold your truck and got a 4x4.
Did you try holding down the brake and giving it gas? A lot of times this will get you moving again. This is an old trick, but it may only work with LSD's. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

A lockright locker is what I was going to install until I had my accident. I bought it for $215.00 delivered and it could be installed in your stock 3rd member.
The down side is it's always on. When turning the tires may chirp or the locker will make a clicking noise when the locker ratchets.
The install can be done at home if at all mechanical.
E-mail me if you need more info or help.

Hey thanks Steve.. But I do have to admitt, I was really running those big 31" AT's
BwaHaaaa....Well, it all comes down to the fact that it is your truck and you need to do it the way you want.. If you added a locker, you could find a spare diff to eaisly stick in the rear and sell yours all day long if you ever sold the truck.. You will not take a hard hit on an ARB locker installed in a V6 pig.

Has anyone installed a Lockright in the front axle of a 1998 or one with the same axle? If so, how does it drive when in 4wd and 2wd? How's the steering effected when in 4wd and 2wd? Any problems? Is the install as easy as the rear sounds like it is?
