Locker Advice
Like the title says, I'm looking for advice...but from people who have these set-ups. This is not an opinion or debate. I'm looking to hear experiences from people with lockers in 1st Gen Regular Cab Tacos with 4cyl, 5 sp. because that is what I drive and looking to build.
I currently have access to a factory e-locker (with no motor) and front diff containing a Detroit locker out of a 91 T4R running 4.88s. To make the e-locker fit, I would have to modify the axle housing and I'd still be without the actuator. Of course, I'd have to either re-gear the front or the rear so the sets match. I've considered selling the 4.88 set-up and just putting in a zip locker. I had modified the T4R to manual hubs, and it sucked having to get out all the time to lock them in....so I really don't want to lose my ADD system at this point in time, it's still a DD. With that said, I really am shying away from non-selectable lockers for the rear.
So, like I said, post up what locker set-up you're running. Tell me what you like and what you don't like about it. Tell me if you'd do it again (or not).
Pic of my old T4R that's about to be parted just for the hell of it...

I had an e-locker retrofit before. I had an open front with manual hubs as well. I did not find a need for adding a locker to the front. 3 wheel drive worked in all but the gnarliest boulders I wanted to climb.
I think hearing the axles to match your tires and lift do WAY more for being functional then having a front locker. I’d see if you could trade the front for annactuator and gears for the rear.
Ine advantage to manual hubs and a front locker is you can unlock the drivers hub and leave it in 4wd, essentially giving you and open front diff. You can’t do that with ADD.
